Bird Watching - Ornithology

Delta de l'Ebre is one of the quintessential ornithological areas of Catalonia for its faunal diversity...

Delta de l'Ebre is the most extensive aquatic habitat in Catalonia, and offers a unique and singular physical, geographical and natural reality. However, its cultural, historical and gastronomic heritage has strong roots that are recognized around the world.

The confluence of sea water, fresh water and its flora make Delta de l'Ebre home to many native species of fish, birds and seabirds. In fact, the Delta is home to about 50 species of fish and more than 360 species of birds, while hosting some of the most important seabird breeding colonies in the Mediterranean.

Although the altitudes above sea level never exceed 5 meters, the richness of the plant communities is considerable. In this sense, the sosars, the reed beds, the dunes and the riparian forest, the only forest formation in the area, stand out.
